Toolox 44 plates

The pre-hardened steel for extrusion dies and engineering components

Toolox 44 pre-hardened steel is suitable for extrusion dies and engineering components that require high strength. It possesses good workshop properties. Toolox 44 is a pre-hardened engineering and tool steel. Despite its high hardness, Toolox 44 combines very good machinability with dimensional stability during machining. Its nominal 450 HBW/45 HRC hardness makes Toolox 44 your ideal choice for demanding mold and die applications. The high steel cleanliness gives Toolox 44 very good polishing, A2 gloss, and texturing capabilities.

In applications that demand additional surface hardness to counteract wear, you can nitride and PVD coat Toolox 44 to customize the mold or die properties. Surface engineering can be carried out as long as the deposition temperature does not exceed 590°C (1,094°F).

Toolox 44 plates

Ready to use – Toolox is delivered pre-hardened which enables machining in one setup.

Guaranteed properties - each Toolox plate undergoes the most rigorous testing in the industry and is delivered with 3.1 certificate.

Superior crack resistance - Toolox is 2 to 3 times tougher than comparable steels of similar hardness.

Heat Resistant - Toolox is tempered at 590°C giving it high wear resistance at elevated.

Suitable for surface engineering - high hardness and toughness of Toolox make it an ideal substrate for surface treatments such as nitriding.

Resistant against vibration - Toolox is a steel concept for production of low vibration cutting tools.

Typical values for Toolox 44

Image

Toolox 44 as heat resistant wear plate with the hardness 450 HB. At 500 °C, it retains about 80% of its original hardness and it is an alternative wear solution to Hardox that is developed specifically for applications subjected to high temperatures. Its unique properties make Toolox a perfect wear plate for metallurgical industries, cement industries, power plants and other areas where the application is exposed to both wear and heat.

Toolox 44 has vibration dampening properties. A research study carried out at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, shows that cutting tools made from Toolox is more resistant against vibrations. Cutting tools in Toolox 44 allows deeper cuts with the same level of vibrations in the cutting operation and longer insert lifetime compared to traditional tool steels in the same cut level. This makes it possible to achieve higher material removal rate or better surface finish in the machined piece.
